His face is lined with age, despite a charming smile with the demeanour of youth. Looking much like he did when he died, both his hands are intact, putting his physical appearance age at about a year before he died. He is rather tall, though by no means overly so, his posture and confidence giving him a big, though inviting aura. His beard reaches down to his waist and his hair to the small of his back, a very light silvery white. Above his left knee is a scar resembling a map of the London Underground, though an admittedly rudimentary one. Friends: Elphias Doge, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape, Harry Potter, and many, many others. Enemies: Tom Riddle. While it could be said that there are many more, most are just minor irritants. Sexuality: Homosexual Love Interests: Became notorious after his death for his 'questionable' relationship with Gellert Grindelwald. As to others, he prefers discretion when it comes to his personal life. Likes: Sweets, ten pin bowling, debates, teaching, mentoring, knitting patterns, birds, chamber music, challenges. Dislikes: Ignorance, waste of talents and promise, betrayal and casual disregard for humanity. Talents: Expert in Transfiguration, the properties of dragon's blood and many other areas of academia. Is very intuitive, is an excellent judge of character and is sublimely insightful in to people and their natures. Flaws: Projects his ill feelings of himself on to those who remind him of his failings, lingering resentment and anger. Residence: A small, modest home in the country, tastefully decorated. A wood surrounds it, the grounds in the clearing containing it are immaculately kept. Inside the atmosphere is warm, the furniture with beautiful stained frames and plush cushions of crimsons, blues and purples. There are books everywhere, on shelves and high stacks, rich coloured tapestries on the walls and soft glowing lamps suspended from the ceiling. A small peculiar room sits askew on the side of the house, its bits of wire, glass and odd substances declare it the workroom, filled with the tools and scraps from which are fashioned delicate little instruments of sporadic purpose. Occupation: Tutor; and a lay councellor and therapist. Always willing to help out when needed, or lend an ear. He has no full time job, however, living out the retirement he fancies he possibly might have enjoyed in life. Age in the Afterlife: 114 'Brief' Life History: Born in 1881, Albus spent the formative years of his life with his family, his parents strict but supportive, his siblings (arriving later) not quite as adversarial as such relationships are often purported. Attending Hogwarts was perhaps the happiest time in his life, his fertile mind constantly challenged and intrigued by his Professors and studies. He met his friend Elphias Doge very early on, coming to count on his company. The was a certain warmth he felt at the school, a warmth that never left him, even after spending the better parts of a century learning, living and working in the same place. He attained the level of prefect and later Head Boy. He was considered something of an unofficial Quidditch captain because while he did not play he attended every game and rallied much support for their team, planning celebrations after major games regardless as to whether they won. Many of his school fellows incorrectly state that he was on the team himself, as they had come to so associate him with the game. Albus' strongest subject was Transfiguration, though there were none that he did not excel at to some degree, and around his fourth year he decided he would focus on that academically. He also developed a knack for building and inventing things, and came to be known for being up all hours and tinkering with all sorts of bits of wire and dubious enchantments. After graduating Albus had planned to tour Europe with Elphias. His mother's death put a wedge in his plans, and he instead returned home. Swallowing his pride and resentment, he set about doing this job to the best of his ability, until he met a dashing young distraction by the name of Gellert Grindelwald. The two hit it off and spent an infamous summer together, until the death of Ariana prompted Gellert to flee. Albus and Aberforth had a falling out, his brother blaming him for the death of their sister. Largely agreeing, Albus spiraled into a darker period in his life, turning shortly to drink and other shallow, destructive pleasures. After two years of accomplishing nothing, he started to put himself back together with help from Elphias, and Professor Marchbanks who had tutored him a short while, intrigued by his ability. He attended the University of Merlin, studying Transfiguration and History of Magic, eventually earning the school's highest degree. While studying Elemental Properties (a required course for Transfiguration, and one that helped greatly with his famous studies of dragon's blood) he met Nicholas Flamel, with whom he would share a life long friendship. Taking a fancy to politics, having long supported candidates and kept up on the issues and news, Albus took correspondence courses in Magical Law. It incensed him, learning of how few right accused wizards really had, and began to contemplate changing career goals. He ultimately decided to stick with his current program, a certification for teachers. His first job related to his education and studies was that of a Latin teacher at Durmstrang. He did not much care for the school his boyhood friend Grindelwald had attended many years before, immersed in the dark arts, and pushing magic in directions he felt it ought not be pushed. He noted that its professors played favourites, and seemed inclined to leaving less 'favourable' students to slip academically until they were asked to leave or simply expelled. He taught there only three years, leaving as soon as he heard a position at Hogwarts had become available. He had never considered that he would stay with being a teacher, feeling it was just something he would do until his brilliance was recognised. However, as he walked again through those familiar doors into that brilliant, inviting warmth, he felt snagged, ensnared and again at home. Within three years he was named Head of Gryffindor House. Keeping his interest in politics, he kept close contacts within the Ministry, often doing favours for officials, and later Aurors. After it was noted that his reflexes were as strong as his intellect and flamboyant wit, he was called upon to serve in the annals of trickery, using his Transfiguration to disguise himself and his intuition to help track escaped and dangerous criminals. While he despised this as taking away from his duties at Hogwarts, he knew better than to underestimate the value having such influental people in his debt. Twenty-one years into his tenure at the school he first met young Tom Marvolo Riddle, who would later gain infamy as the dark Lord Voldemort. Only eleven at the time, Riddle struck a disturbing chord with the future headmaster. Corresponding with Voldemort's years at Hogwarts, perhaps something of an omen, was Grindelwald's grisly rise to power in Europe. At first he shut himself in his office, then he refused pleas by claiming only the vaguest interests in the dueling club he had been part of at university. Fate would not let him remain clear of the conflict, as the wizard known as Grindelwald's top agent sought him out, hell bent to take his head back to Grindelwald on a platter. Britain was brought into the conflict, though rather vicariously, at this peculiar singling out of Albus Dumbledore as Gellert Grindelwald's top person he wanted dead. In a duel, famous in its time, Dumbledore soundly defeated this agent. While popular tales tell of a surprise attack in the dead of night in a dark alley in a raging thunderstorm, the actuality is less romantic. The timing of the attack was certainly a surprise, though Albus knew better than to not be on his guard, and night had only begun to fall. And while it was a side street and not an alley, it most certainly had been raining. A towns person claimed that Albus walked away from the fallen wizard stating only that he was disgusted that he had ruined his prized velvet boots in a puddle, but this story is also largely denied. The details not important, Britain considered him a top duelist, earning him the title of their "champion." He despised this, and refused to defeat Grindelwald himself. It was five years later that the duel occurred, earning Albus the Elder wand and an Order of Merlin. Ten years later he was named headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and it was around the same time he denied the Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching post to the newly dubbed Lord Voldemort. Almost two decades later saw James, Lily and the rest of their year starting Hogwarts, as well as the rise of Lord Voldemort and his followers. During this time he founded the first Order of the Phoenix, gathering those he could trust to help him fight against Voldemort, as the Ministry preferred denial to action. With the unfortunate deaths of the Potters, Albus had the infant Harry given to Lily's closest living relatives, to allow Harry to live under an ancient blood protection spell. Harry's years at Hogwarts were certainly eventful, bringing with them Voldemort in several forms--the Muggle Studies turned Defence teacher Professor Quirell, the diary planted by Lucius Malfoy, and finally the return of Voldemort himself directly following the final event of the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Reforming the Order, he quickly gathered those who would fight, needed more than ever in the light of the Ministry's firmly blind eye. This was especially evident in light of his being ousted as Hogwarts headmaster, replaced by Ministry official Dolores Umbridge. During the summer following, while searching for the pieces of Voldemort's soul, he happened upon a ring he thought he would never find. Tempted by the prospect of finally uniting the Hallows, he attempted to use the stone in the ring, forgetting the curses Voldemort undoubtedly cast upon it. He was able to destroy it, but the curse had taken hold. The timely actions of Professor Severus Snape helped to impede the curse, but the effects would contribute to his death. Another horcrux's discovery would be the next leading contributing factor, the last his agreement that Snape would be the one to kill him--ensuring Snape's position as a favoured Death Eater, and sparing Albus the prospect of a humiliating and prolonged death. After his death he remained in a sort of limbo, knowing that Harry would need him for his final stand. He had vested so much in Harry, hating what had had to be done, and was ever thankful that the boy survived the ordeal. His plans, in their ultimate conclusion, had only ever been for one purpose: to help all those he could to survive. *While Albus' birth date is legally recorded as that above, Albus later found correspondences from his parents noting his actual date of birth as 14 February of the same year. His questions were dismissed as to the change when he was boy, and it was not until he was a little older that he deduced that the change was made (though he never found out how) because his parents had only been married three months at the time of his birth. He keeps it confidential as per his parents' unspoken wish, and considers it his happy romantic little secret.
